Hope Galley and William Kurpiel wanted their wedding to be an intimate celebration of their lives and their families. Eighty friends and family members gathered at the Marriott Ranch in Hume, Va., for an outdoor ceremony and a reception in a high-beamed pavilion with a roaring fire. The pair were fortunate to have a warm, clear day, giving guests the chance to take turns riding the horse-drawn carriage they'd hired from the Shenandoah Carriage Co.
The ambiance: Galley and Kurpiel's wedding was one of unfussy elegance. On the programs and throughout the reception were sepia-toned pictures of their mothers on their on wedding days. Candlelight filled the pavilion once the sun set, and guests who were chilly were offered wraps in rich, fall colors.
The food: Marriott Ranch catered a dinner that included four serving stations, where guests could choose salmon, pasta, steak or vegetable kabobs. They also offered a signature cocktail that combined dark rum, sweet vermouth, apple and lemon juice and sparkling cider. Galley and Kurpiel had nine cakes, instead of one, from Jackie MacCannell of Ms. Mac's Cakes. Among the varieties: chocolate with raspberry, coconut, banana, vanilla, forest chocolate and carrot.
The dress: Galley wore a layered, silk organza A-line gown made by L'ezu Atelier and purchased at the Bella Bride in San Francisco.
