Radford tops Navy behind late surge

Two double-doubles boost Highlanders past Midshipmen

Joey Lynch-Flohr and Artsiom Parakhouski both tallied double-doubles to propel Radford to a 76-65 win over Navy in the season opener for both teams in Radford, Va., on Friday night.

Lynch-Flohr scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Parakhouski added 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Highlanders. It was the 13th double-double of Lynch-Flohr's career and Parakhouski's 18th.

Blake Smith added 17 points and eight rebounds.

Radford trailed 37-31 at halftime but shot 56.7 percent (17 for 30) from the floor in the second half to seal the comeback win.

Navy shot just 28.6 percent (12 for 42) in the second half, and it was outscored 32-12 in the paint.

The Midshipmen led 63-62 with 3 minutes 31 seconds left, but Radford went on a 13-0 run to go up by 12 with 18 seconds left.

Chris Harris paced Navy with 21 points.

-- ST. FRANCIS (PA.) 65, AMERICAN 61: Devin Sweetney (Riverdale Baptist) scored 26 points as the Red Flash beat the Eagles in Loretto, Pa., in the first regular season game for both teams.

St. Francis overcame a 31-20 halftime deficit and made 5 of 6 free throws, including four by Sweetney, in the final 30 seconds to preserve the victory. Sweetney also had a game-high eight rebounds.

Cedric Latimer added 10 points for the Red Flash.

Riley Grafft led American with 14 points, shooting 7 for 10 from the field. Stephen Lumpkins and Nick Hendra each added 10 points for the Eagles.

The Red Flash managed only 25 percent (8 of 32) from the field in the first half, but made 11 of 22 (50 percent) in the final 20 minutes.
