HOKIES JOURNAL

Two-sport athletes

at Virginia Tech

North Carolina State's Russell Wilson, who plays at Virginia Tech on Saturday and has pro baseball potential, has inspired some interesting conversation about the Hokies' two-sport athletes: running back David Wilson and offensive lineman Andrew Miller.

In September, Wilson said he planned to compete in the triple jump at Virginia Tech. On the gridiron, Wilson has played only a bit role as Ryan Williams has emerged as a star.

Miller is a freshman on the scout team who currently has a shoulder injury. He is a scholarship football player but plans on wrestling at Virginia Tech. In high school, Miller was a two-time Virginia state wrestling champion.

NATIONALS JOURNAL

Three added to 40-man roster,

but not reliever Wilkie

The Nationals added three minor league pitchers -- right-hander Juan Jaime and left-handers Atahualpa Severino and Aaron Thompson -- to their 40-man roster Thursday, protecting them from the Dec. 10 Rule 5 draft. However, right-hander Josh Wilkie was not added.

Jaime, 22, went 5-2 with a 2.10 ERA in 14 appearances split between short-season Class A Vermont and Class A Hagerstown.

Severino, 25, went 10-0 with 15 saves and a 2.62 ERA in 44 appearances at Class A Potomac and Class AA Harrisburg.

Thompson, 22, acquired from the Marlins in the Nick Johnson trade, posted a 3.93 ERA in 26 starts at Class AA Jacksonville and Harrisburg.
