HIGHLIGHTS

Though different explanations have been floated (film for a documentary? Fodder for a movie? Just a huge prank?), no one's quite sure what's behind movie star James Franco's decision to guest-star on long-running soap "General Hospital" (ABC at 3 p.m.). Regardless, the actor kicks off his stint Friday as a mysterious man, appropriately named "Franco," who arrives in Port Charles to stir up trouble.

Tess kidnaps Lois to find out where she disappeared to during all those weeks on "Smallville" (CW at 8), and Lois is forced to reveal what she saw in the future.

Melinda is concerned about her son's safety on "Ghost Whisperer" (CBS at 8) when the ghost of a young girl befriends Aiden and tells Melinda to get lost.

The detectives on "Law & Order" (NBC at 8) are puzzled after a senior citizen is involved in a violent armed robbery, as no one's quite sure whether the crime was an inside job or possibly a scare tactic.

One future bride commits such a huge fashion faux pas that her whole family travels to New York on "Say Yes to the Dress" (TLC at 9) for a quick dress intervention.

Leave it to Allison to turn an everyday incident into having a super power -- when she has to wear light-sensitive sunglasses, the glasses reveal numbers that tie into people's life expectancies on "Medium" (CBS at 9).

After tonight's "Monk" (USA at 9), which guest-stars Tony Shalhoub's real-life wife, Brooke Adams, the countdown is two weeks until the final episode.

Bill Moyers recalls his days in President Lyndon B. Johnson's White House on "Bill Moyers' Journal" (WETA at 9) as the show examines Johnson's decisions about Vietnam.

New series "Happily Ever Faster" (TLC at 10) chronicles the adventures of a Las Vegas chapel that specializes in quickie weddings, and deals with drama including a pregnant bride melting down over an ill-fitting wedding dress.

Many segments have already aired this week, but "20/20" (ABC at 10) includes recaps and adds some more footage of Barbara Walters's interview with Sarah Palin.

Magnus is accused of murder on "Sanctuary" (Syfy at 10) and Will tries to defend her to the big bosses.

Actors Kellan Lutz and Ed Begley Jr. visit "The Jay Leno Show" (NBC at 10).

"Late Show With David Letterman" (CBS at 11:35) hosts actor Viggo Mortensen, comedian Paula Poundstone and musical guest Lyle Lovett.

Actress Eva Mendes and singer Jon Bon Jovi are guests on "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien" (NBC at 11:35), and Bon Jovi performs.
