VIRGINIA

Fatal car crash

A Fairfax County man died Thursday in a car crash on Route 50 just east of Middleburg in Loudoun County, Loudoun sheriff's officials said Friday.

Syan Trilochan-Singh, 69, of Centreville was driving a 2003 Lincoln Town Car east on Route 50 near Carters Farm Lane shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, Loudoun sheriff's spokesman Kraig Troxell said. William E. Albers, 66, of Middleburg was pulling out of a private drive onto Route 50 in his Toyota Prius, trying to head west, when the Town Car struck the Prius.

Trilochan-Singh was taken to Inova Loudoun Hospital, where he died, Troxell said.

New U.S. attorney

With the attorney general and a parade of legal luminaries looking on, Neil H. MacBride was formally sworn in Friday as U.S. attorney for Northern Virginia.

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. spoke at the swearing-in ceremony in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, saying MacBride will make "a superb U.S. attorney."

MacBride said his top priority will be terrorism and national security cases, along with gangs, drugs and financial fraud.
