A man was struck by a Metro train and killed Friday night in the Brookland station on the Red Line, authorities said.

According to preliminary investigation authorities said, it appeared that the man deliberately placed himself in front of the train. It was at least the 10th suicide on the system this year.

Service on the Red Line was delayed after the incident, which occurred about 9:15 p.m. The station was shut down after the incident but had reopened by 11 p.m., Metro said.
