Agent of change: Gilbert Arenas quotes this season

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

When the Wizards opened training camp on Sept. 29, Gilbert Arenas claimed he would not speak to journalists again until the following year's media day. However, as the losses piled up for the Wizards -- who are now 3-9 -- so did Arenas's words.

Sept. 29: "I just want to play. I don't have a blog. I don't have a Twitter. When I was blogging and playing, all you guys focused on was my words."

Oct. 1: "I'm not talking. I'll see you guys media day next year."

Oct. 27: "I did fine."

Nov. 5: "[H]e has to shoot the open shot. You know, Caron's a rhythm player, so in the old system he had enough time to get into his 'mojo' and shoot those shots. In this system, you have to get a lot of catch and shoots."

Nov. 9: [W]hen we have shots open, we're not taking them. ... We're trying to do the extra dribble, or get closer to the rim, or pass the ball an extra time when we could just take the first shot."

Nov. 10: "I don't know what the hell is going on around here. I don't know if some old player put a curse on us back in the day. I have no idea."

Nov. 14: "I'm Zero. I'm not Gilbert no more. Gilbert's not working out. It ain't working if we lost five in a row. Coach told me he didn't want the angry man no more. So, he's back."

Nov. 21: "The NBA's a ship. . . . As the captain, I've got to steer my ship. If I've got to steer it to land until everybody wants to jump on, then I'm going to do it."

"Everyone's got their own individual goals, I guess. Hidden agendas. You can't win like that."

"I'm sitting here thinking, 'Do I have to go into attack mode like I was [three] years ago to get us over the hump? I hope not."
