Three men were shot, one fatally, early Thursday in a residence in the Columbia Heights area, D.C. police said.

The shootings occurred in the 700 block of Harvard Street NW, police said in a news release. About 5:40 a.m., patrol officers were alerted to gunfire by ShotSpotter, a device that transmits the sound of gunfire to police.

Officers responded and found three men wounded, police said. The victims were taken to area hospitals, where Jose Rene Rodriguez Guterrez was pronounced dead two hours later. The other victims were being treated for non-life-threatening wounds, police said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 202-727-9099 or 1-888-919-2746.
