WHERE TO STAY

Hotel Val de Ruda, 011-34-973-645-258, http://www.hotelvalderudabaqueira.com/web. Just across the street from the hotel base area lifts. Decorated in a country style with lots of wood. Double rooms start at about $300 with breakfast.

Hotel Sol Vielha, 011-34-973-638-000, http://www.sol-vielha.com. A modern hotel a short walk from the top night life and restaurants in Vielha, with a pool and nearby shuttle to the slopes, which are about nine miles away. Double rooms start at about $150 with breakfast.

Casa Irene, 011-34-973-644-364, http://www.hotelcasairene.com/en. Connected with the legendary restaurant, it boasts a rustic mountain decor, modern baths, a pool and a spa. The best in this small village a little more than four miles from the slopes. Double rooms start at about $280 with breakfast.

WHERE TO EAT

Altitude 1800, 011-34-973-645-202. At the top of the Bosque lift (the main lift out of town). The red beans were some of the best I have ever eaten, and red peppers stuffed with ears and lips sound horrible but taste heavenly. A three-course meal averages about $45.

Era Mola, 011-34-973-640868. Tucked into the old town. Meals cost about $27-$42.

Casa Carmela, 011-34-973-645-751. In the tiny village of Unha, this restaurant has grown from a small dining room 20 years ago to an empire with three levels. The cordero lechal is exceptional, as is the local soup, olla Aranesa. Expect to pay about $27-$42 for a three-course meal.

WHAT TO DO

Baqueira-Beret, http://baqueira.es. Lift tickets cost about $66 a day for adults and about $44 for children ages 6-11. A five-day lift ticket is about $282 for adults and about $182 for children.

Adult equipment rental is about $28 a day or about $113 a week. Children's equipment is about $16 a day or about $66 a week.
