$5 or less SCOTTISH CHRISTMAS WALK, HOLIDAY BOAT PARADE OF LIGHTS

Alexandria is a city of traditions, and two different sides of the city will be on display Saturday. First it's the 39th annual Scottish Christmas Walk, a parade featuring bagpipers, Scottie dogs, antique cars, Scottish dancers and representatives of dozens of Scottish clans, plus a very special guest of honor from the North Pole. The parade starts at Wilkes and S. Saint Asaph streets at 11 a.m. and winds through the streets of Old Town before ending at the corner of King and Royal streets, in front of Market Square.

11 a.m.-1 p.m. Starts at Wilkes and S. Saint Asaph streets, Alexandria. http://www.scottishchristmaswalk.com.

In the late afternoon, it's time for the Holiday Boat Parade of Lights on the Potomac River, when festively decorated boats pass the city's historic waterfront. Santa arrives on a fireboat at 4:15, and the boats light up the docks at 6 p.m. The best views are at the City Marina, which is located at the base of Cameron Street.

6 p.m. Alexandria City Marina, 0 Cameron St., Alexandria. 703-746-5487. http://www.visitalexandriava.com.
