Munitions report

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said it has collected five discarded World War I chemical weapons projectiles and other munitions during the past two years at sites in Spring Valley.

Found were a 75mm projectile thought to contain the potentially deadly agent Lewisite; one thought to contain the blistering agent mustard; and three thought to contain the toxic agent arsine. The munitions, found at research sites in the Northwest Washington neighborhood, are in storage.

The Army will host an open house on the munitions report at 6 p.m. Dec. 8 at Metropolitan Memorial Methodist Church, 3401 Nebraska Ave. NW.
