D.C. police have identified a man who was shot and killed Tuesday night during a carjacking attempt in Southeast Washington.

About 9 p.m., police found Arvell S. Alston of Temple Hills and another man suffering from gunshot wounds in the 4200 block of Fourth Street SE near Chesapeake Street. The site is about a half-mile north of the intersection of Southern Avenue and South Capitol Street.

Alston was taken to a hospital and died shortly after 10 p.m. The identity of the second man was not released because he is a witness in the case.

Police ask anyone with information to call 202-727-9099 or 888-919-2746.
