PB& J Ministry makes hundreds of sandwiches every week

Volunteers with Cresthill Baptist Church's PB&J Ministry have perfected the science of building peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The group of five to 10 volunteers turns out 400 sandwiches every other Monday at the church, assembly-line style.
The sandwiches are delivered to So Others Might Eat, an interfaith community organization in Northwest Washington that helps the homeless and poor.
"They get about 10 sandwiches out of a loaf of bread; it's really amazing to see," church member Brenda Guy said.
The peanut butter and jelly are bought for the ministry, which was started 15 years ago, and a family in the church donates the bread. Bread and condiment donations are welcome, as are new volunteers for the assembly line. The collective will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and every other Monday thereafter, at 6510 Laurel Bowie Rd., Bowie. Call 301-262-4141.
