-- Vivi, the contemporary home accessories store in Bethesda Row, is closing because of the effects of the recession. "In the spring of 2008, it became apparent to retailers that the economy was shifting," said owner Sandra Velvel. "That's when we started to notice that things weren't what they were. Certainly last fall there was a huge jump." Everything in the store except some consignment artwork is 15 to 50 percent off, with the sale continuing until everything is sold. The dining room and living room furniture will go on sale Saturday, with the bedroom furniture and other miscellaneous items scheduled to arrive in early January. -- Attention, stargazers: Little bits of Hollywood and high-society Washington are being auctioned off Saturday at the Potomack Co. in Alexandria. The auction will include more than 350 pieces of furniture, decorations and artwork used by Antique and Contemporary Leasing, an Alexandria staging company, to furnish movie sets and events in Washington. The objects have no minimum price. Among them are a gold camelback sofa rented to the producers of "Salt," the upcoming movie starring Angelina Jolie (retail price $2,000; estimated auction price $400 to $600) and a nautical painting hung in the Mellon Auditorium when President Bill Clinton hosted NATO's 50th anniversary summit there (retail price $2,000; estimated auction price $400 to $600).
