On Dec. 6, The Post ran a photograph on Page A19 of President Obama visiting Arlington National Cemetery. The caption read, "President Obama consoles a visitor at Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans' Day." The young men who were photographed with Mr. Obama were my sons Stephen and Matthew Barbieri. They were at Arlington National Cemetery visiting their brother, Spec. Thomas (TJ) Joseph Barbieri II, who was killed in Iraq on Aug. 23, 2006. TJ was awarded the Silver Star for risking, and giving, his life to save others on his fire team. My sons were honored to have met the president and first lady that day.

We are grateful that the president took the time to pay his respects to all of the heroes who have given so much for their country. Our fundamental wish is that they never be forgotten. That they were remembered by the leader of this great nation gives us hope that their sacrifices are recognized and appreciated.

Carolann Barbieri, Gaithersburg
