A $38 million renovation of heavily traveled Benning Road in Northeast Washington is nearing completion on schedule, the District Department of Transportation announced Monday.

The project started two years ago on the section of Benning Road from 16th Street to Oklahoma Avenue. It included installing brick gutters, granite curbs, streetcar tracks and landscaping; and sidewalk restoration. Traffic signals and water and storm drains were upgraded, and streetlights were replaced.

The final portion of the project will be the completion of the intersection of H Street, Maryland Avenue and Benning and Bladensburg roads. The entire project is scheduled to be finished in April.
