These days, thanks to Maxim and the wonders of home movies, it's hardly rare to see celebrities stripped down nearly to their naughty bits. But it is extraordinary to see Pamela Anderson's bits gracing a gallery wall.
On Saturday, Georgetown's Govinda Gallery will open "Naked Ambition," a show of portraiture created for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals campaigns, including the iconic "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" ads. Turns out Govinda owner Chris Murray is a vegetarian and knows PETA executive Dan Mathews and represents photographer Greg Gorman, who shot some of the images in the show.
Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Klein and Mary McCartney are among the other photographers who snapped Anderson, Karina Smirnoff, Tyra Banks, Steve-O, Dennis Rodman, Alicia Silverstone and other demi-celebs in the buff for PETA. Their photos will be on display, some side-by-side with the resulting ads.
As a bonus, "Twilight" actress Christian Serratos (who plays Angela in the films), the latest actress to take it all off in the name of self-promotion -- er, animal rights -- will attend the opening of the show, which is being displayed at a space around the corner from Govinda. "Naked Ambition: 20 Years of PETA's Sexy Celebrity Ads" opens with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Up through Jan. 9 at 3307 M St. NW. http:/
