Marianne Janes, 32, is an economist. Scott Reifschneider, 31, is a federal contractor. They live in Alexandria.

Wedding date: Dec. 5.

Location: Cranford House.

Guests: 40.

How they met: In 2007, Marianne was moved by a story Scott posted on Yahoo Personals about how he survived a stroke at age 23. Marianne also survived a tough time when she lost both of her parents at 19. She sent a note to Scott, who was just about to cancel his Yahoo profile, and the two began trading e-mails.

First date: After talking twice on the phone, Scott suggested meeting for coffee. Marianne brought a copy of Aviation Week magazine to read in case he was late. Scott noticed the magazine; Marianne thought he would think she was a dork but was surprised to learn they both were interested in World War II aircraft.

The proposal: Last year, they were in Cleveland for Thanksgiving to visit Scott's family. One evening, the couple were at Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra. As they were admiring the building's architecture and listening to the concert pianist warm up, Scott asked if he could have a crush on her for the rest of her life.

The wedding: They hosted an intimate affair where guests felt as if they were back in the early 1900s. And for a bit of levity, they changed wording during the ceremony to "so say we all," a saying popularized on the sci-fi TV show "Battlestar Galactica."

Honeymoon: Williamsburg.
