Williams sees upsets as
a warning to his team
"Tennessee, Georgetown and Florida came out of exams Saturday," Coach Gary Williams said. "How'd they do? It's a tough time of year. You feel like you're playing pretty well, but you need to play against somebody to see how you're playing. And that's what you have to do. And everybody goes through it. Nobody is exempted from that in college basketball, so you have to be ready to play."
On Saturday, Tennessee lost to Southern California, Georgetown to Old Dominion and Florida to Richmond.
On Tuesday night, Maryland (6-3) will host Winston-Salem State, an independent team that will return to Division II next season. The Rams (2-6) don't incite fear in the hearts of most of their opponents, and that was Williams's point.

Turnovers tarnish victory, frustrate Greenberg
In a 73-50 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday, the Hokies committed a season-high 19 turnovers. Afterward, Coach Seth Greenberg was frustrated with Virginia Tech's ballhandling, particularly by guard Malcolm Delaney, who had seven turnovers.
"Very disappointed with the way we handled the basketball," Greenberg said. "We were just careless. Malcolm had seven turnovers. Of those seven turnovers, there probably wasn't one that was forced. We eliminated those turnovers, we probably took pretty decent care of the ball."
The Hokies had taken good care of the ball before Saturday, averaging only 10.9 turnovers a game.
