A body found decomposing inside a Southeast Washington apartment building was identified by D.C. police Wednesday as that of a 16-year-old boy from the Henson Ridge development.

Deonte Payton of the 1800 block of Frederick Douglass Place SE was apparently shot. His body was found Tuesday in a residence at the Stanton Glenn Apartments. Neighbors complained about a foul odor in the building in the 3000 block of Stanton Road SE, and building engineers went into the apartment that was the source of the smell and found Payton's body.

Police ask anyone with information to call 202-727-9099 or 888-919-CRIME (888-919-2746) or to send anonymous tips by phone at 866-411-TIPS or text message 50411.
