Reagan terminal back to normal after flooding

Video
RAW VIDEO: A broken pipe sent water gushing into part of the terminal at Reagan National Airport late Saturday afternoon, creating a major disruption, authorities said. The break flooded the lower level of Terminal C, which is primarily used by US Airways, said airport spokeswoman Tara Hamilton. The baggage claim area in Terminal C was in the flooded area, she said.

Reagan National Airport resumed normal operations mid-morning on Sunday, after a burst pipe disrupted flights on a busy holiday weekend.

Water flooded the baggage-claim level of Terminal C, according to Tara Hamilton, spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, shutting the area down Saturday afternoon.

US Airways canceled all flights before 10 a.m. Sunday and rebooked many passengers on different flights, but by mid-morning was operating again.

About 100 airport staff worked to clean up the flooding and repair the problem, working through the night, she said. The cause of the broken pipe is still unknown, Hamilton said.

"So far it's normal," Hamilton said. "Just because it's still the holidays, customers would be wise to come early."
