American Eagles lose to Florida Gators, 76-60

Alex Tyus had 20 points and nine rebounds, Kenny Boynton added 19 points and Florida snapped a three-game losing streak with a 76-60 victory over American on Monday night.
Nick Henden led American with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Vlad Moldoveanu added 14 points and was 4 for 6 from behind the arc.
Vernon Macklin finished with a career-high 18 points for the Gators (9-3), who won for the first time since Dec. 4.
Florida had been ranked as high as No. 10, but dropped close games against Syracuse, Richmond and South Alabama.
The Gators rebounded against American, an NCAA tournament team in 2009 that is rebuilding after losing several seniors. The Eagles (2-11) made it close by outscoring Florida in the second half and finishing 10 for 24 from behind the three-point line.

The Colonials (9-2) have won five of their last six games and are 5-0 on the road this season.
George Washington jumped to a 20-4 lead and led 36-22 at halftime in the schools' first meeting since 1996.
The Crusaders (2-10) used a 10-2 to run to pull to 62-60 with 1 minute 55 seconds remaining. The Colonials pushed the lead to six with 44 seconds to go, but Holy Cross again whittled it down to two with five seconds left on Devin Brown's three-pointer. After Tony Taylor missed two free throws for George Washington with three seconds remaining, Mike Cavataio missed a three-pointer for Holy Cross at the buzzer.
The Crusaders were 9 for 18 from beyond the arc compared with George Washington's 4 for 20.
Wright leads U-Va. women
Monica Wright scored 28 points and No. 23 Virginia beat Samford, 69-60, in the opening round of the Cavalier Classic.
