Georgetown won its 10th straight game, three shy of the program record set in 1980, defeating Clemson, 72-57, on Wednesday night at Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson, S.C.
The Hoyas improved to 11-2 with the win in their final nonconference matchup before beginning Big East Conference play on Saturday.
The Tigers got on the board first, but a 12-0 run thanks to Georgetown's fast break gave the Hoyas the advantage early. Clemson began to come back using the offensive glass and pulled within three at the eight-minute mark. However, a layup from Tia Magee pulled the lead back to five as the Hoyas worked to stay in control.
Ta'Shauna Rodgers led the Hoyas with 17 points, while Monica McNutt added 13 and Adria Crawford had 12. Georgetown, which opens Big East play at Syracuse on Saturday, shot 49 percent from the field.
-- GEORGE WASHINGTON 45, RUTGERS 43: At Smith Center, the Colonials went on a late 13-0 run and held off the Scarlet Knights for their first victory in nine games.
The victory snapped an eight-game losing skid for GW (3-8), which also beat its former Atlantic 10 rival for the first time in five meetings and ninth time in the 37-game series. Rutgers is 8-6.
Trailing 40-32 with 10 minutes 5 seconds to play, the Colonials held the Scarlet Knights scoreless for more than nine minutes and scored 13 consecutive points to turn an eight-point deficit into a 45-40 lead with 1:12 remaining.
Sophomore Kay-Kay Allums led the Colonials with 13 points.
-- VIRGINIA TECH 56, CHARLOTTE 54: Lindsay Biggs's game-high 19 points, 16 of which came in the second half, were enough to lift the Hokies in the championship game of the Hilton Garden Classic at Cassell Coliseum.
Fellow senior Utahya Drye joined Biggs in double figures by scoring 12 points, as the two combined to lead the Hokies (9-4) to the tournament title for the 11th time in the past 12 years.
Last year was the first time Virginia Tech had lost a game in its annual holiday tournament, now in its 20th year, since 1997.
-- HOWARD 87, HOLY CROSS 80: Zykia Brown hit a game-tying three-pointer at the end of regulation and the Lady Bison rallied from a 15-point deficit in the consolation game of the Hawk Holiday Classic in West Long Branch, N.J.
Howard (4-7) trailed by 15 with 10:09 remaining in the second half before Brown's layup spurred a 10-0 run over the next six minutes, trimming the lead to five with under four minutes left in regulation.
-- APPALACHIAN STATE 74, GEORGE MASON 54: The Patriots stayed winless on the road, ending a two-game winning streak and dropping to 7-4 after their final nonconference game in Boone, N.C.
Brittany Eley and Amber Easter led George Mason with 15 points each.
