Katherine Paterson named national ambassador for young people's literature

'Terabithia' author Paterson gets job . . .
-- Katherine Paterson, author of "Bridge to Terabithia," is the new national ambassador for young people's literature for 2010 and 2011. She is the second author to hold the national title, which is announced by the librarian of Congress. The first was Jon Scieszka, author of "The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales." Paterson and Scieszka will appear Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Washington bookstore Politics & Prose.

-- Jim Zorn, coach of the Washington Redskins for two seasons, was fired after the team's last game this weekend. The Redskins lost 20 games and won 12 under Zorn. Former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan is expected to be named the Redskins' seventh head coach in 10 years. Shanahan won two Super Bowls with the Broncos.
