Proposed midyear budget cuts

Here are some of the $70 million in midyear cuts proposed Thursday for the $4.47 billion budget that Montgomery County passed last year.
Trims:
Montgomery County government: $40.8 million
Montgomery public schools: $22 million
Montgomery College: $3.6 million
Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission: $3.8 million
Reductions in selected government departments (and percentage of department's total):
Police: $6.9 million (2.8 percent)
Health and Human Services: $2 million (1 percent)
Public libraries: $1 million (2.9 percent)
Fire: $2.3 million (1.2 percent)
County Council: $266,000 (2.9 percent)
