Praise for D.C. police's gun-sting program

Thank you for the Jan. 4 Metro article "In the market for guns, drugs and arrest," which offered the most daring and positive portrayal of the D.C. police I have seen in decades. Not that I need a hero, but I liked reading that real work was being done against criminals in the nation's capital instead of those impotent, politically motivated public relations stunts known as "gun buy-backs."

This story shows that Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier is not afraid to make the hard decisions so often avoided by law enforcement leaders.

The only bad news is that once the word gets out about the gun-sting operation, it can't be used again for a while. It took guts to carry out this sting. I appreciate the officers who risk their lives to make ours safer.
