-- Marriott kicks off the new year with its Global Rate Break promotion. Stay Thursday-Sunday and receive 20 percent off rooms at properties worldwide. Some are also offering the deal seven days a week, and select resorts in the Caribbean, Latin America and Hawaii are taking 40 percent off. For example, after the 20 percent discount, a room at the JW Marriott San Francisco Union Square starts at about $143 a night, plus $22 in taxes. For the 40 percent deal, the Marriott San Juan Resort & Stellaris Casino hotel in Puerto Rico has rates from about $256, including breakfast for two adults and children younger than 12.
