Wise point guard Daryl Traynham, the Washington area's sixth-leading scorer at 22.7 points per game, has committed to play for Massachusetts, Pumas Coach O.J. Johnson said Sunday.

Traynham, a 5-foot-9 senior, had 33 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals in an 87-72 victory over Parkdale this past Friday, Wise's fourth consecutive victory. He then departed for an official visit to Massachusetts, and told the Minutemen he will accept a scholarship offer and sign a letter-of-intent in April.

Johnson said that Traynham is on track to meet the NCAA's standards for academic eligibility.

"He really liked U-Mass.," Johnson said. "A couple players he played with in AAU are there already."

Four Massachusetts players have ties to the Washington-Baltimore region: guard Javorn Farrell (Riverdale Baptist), guard Ricky Harris (Calvert Hall), forward Raphiael Putney (Woodbridge) and forward Terrell Vinson (St. Frances).

Also, Minutemen assistant coach Antwon Jackson is a former D.C. Assault coach, the travel team for which Traynham now plays.
