Sara Fargnoli and Jeffrey Schinnerer are 33-year-old lawyers. They live in Washington.

Wedding date: Dec. 31.

Location: St. Matthew's Cathedral and the Hay-Adams Hotel, Washington.

Guests: 125.

How they met: In 2000, Sara and Jeff were law students in South Royalton, Vt. Jeff was the slacker who sat behind Sara in several classes and was taken by her vibrant red hair. Sara was the nerd who sat in the front, she says. She would often turn around, pretending to look at the clocks hanging in the back of the classrooms so she could catch Jeff's smile. They didn't strike up a conversation until several weeks into their first semester, when Sara saw that Jeff had injured his hand and asked if he needed help carrying his books.

The proposal: They were driving from visiting Sara's parents in New Jersey to Jeff's home in Vermont in May 2008. Jeff decided to make a pit stop at their law school at 11 p.m. They walked to a gazebo where they used to rest in between classes, and Jeff popped the question. Sara was shocked, didn't say anything for a while, stared blankly at him and then asked Jeff to repeat himself so she could remember the moment.

The wedding: Sarah and Jeff consider New Year's Eve a special day, because that's when they usually take a trip together. However, this time they rang in the holiday with friends and relatives and enjoyed an amazing view of the White House during their reception.

Honeymoon: Maui and Kauai, Hawaii.
