1996

The last time Washington area federal offices were closed for three consecutive days because of weather was that January. The Blizzard of '96 struck shortly after federal employees had returned to work following a budget impasse.

2003

The last multiple-day closing before this one was a two-day shutdown in September 2003,

as Hurricane Isabel lashed the region.
