Snow forces federal government to close Thursday

Thursday, February 11, 2010; A23

Federal agencies across the nation's capital will close Thursday for a fourth straight day after closing early on Friday -- taking the shutdown into uncharted territory.

The 1995 and 1996 budget impasses kept workers away for weeks, and bad weather closed offices for three consecutive days in January 1996 -- but 4 1/2 consecutive snow days is unheard of.
