Preview: Wake Forest at Virginia Tech

Tuesday, February 16, 2010; D03

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Cassell Coliseum, Blacksburg, Va.

TV: ESPN2

Radio: WWXT (92.7 FM), WWXX (94.3 FM), WTEM (980 AM)

Records: Demon Deacons 18-5, 8-3 ACC; Hokies 20-4, 7-3.

Top 50 opponent: Virginia Tech's nonconference schedule is ranked 340th, meaning the Hokies need wins over top-50 teams such as Wake Forest to bolster their NCAA tournament résumé. The Demon Deacons are ranked 11th in the RPI and are one of four teams currently in the top 50 that Virginia Tech plays before the regular season ends. To stay in the conversation for the NCAA tournament, the Hokies, who are 1-2 against top-50 teams this season, probably need to win at least two of those games.

Crying foul: Guard Malcolm Delaney scored 20 of his 30 points in a win over Clemson on Feb. 6 at the foul line, but has made only a combined 13 trips to the stripe in the past two games. Delaney said officials have told him to "stop flopping," and he is frustrated. An important part of Delaney's game has been his ability to score from the free throw line, but in a win over Virginia on Saturday, he scored only four of his 13 points from the foul line. The 13 points, meanwhile, matched his lowest total in an ACC game this season.
