Anslie Stokes and William Milligan went into contingency planning as meteorologists started predicting historic snowfalls for the week of their wedding. Her family, who live in Florida, flew to Richmond several days early, rented a car and camped out in Washington to make sure they wouldn't miss it. Luckily, by the time they were wed at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown, the sun was out and most of the streets were clear.

The ambiance: elegant. Milligan and Stokes had toured the Fairfax Hotel a year ago for his business as an event planner. They fell in love with the ballroom and didn't look at any other venues when they started planning their own wedding. Foxgloves Flowers of Alexandria provided the bouquets and centerpieces.

The food: Cocktail hour and dinner were catered by the Fairfax Hotel. Wagshal's Catering made the cake.

The music: MSE Productions provided a jazz trio for the cocktail hour and a DJ for dinner and dancing.

The photographer: Eli Turner of Freed Photography

The dress: Stokes found her strapless dress, embellished with crystals, at Betsy Robinson's Bridal.

The first dance: "When You Say Nothing at All," by Alison Krauss.
