$5 or less: Three Chord Comedy Happy Hour

Need to get your weekend off to a funny start? For a $4 cover, the Velvet Lounge's comedy happy hour offers stand-up to go with $2 beers and $4 rail drinks. Headlining on Friday is Dave Hill, whom you may have heard on Comedy Central, HBO, "This American Life" or in his hilarious interview videos on YouTube. (You're missing out if you haven't read his online Black Metal Diaries, a series of e-mails with the manager of the Norwegian industrial black metal band Mysticum in which Hill pretends to be a 19-year-old "King of Black Metal" from Gary, Ind.) Opening are Justin Schlegel, a DJ on radio station 98 Rock, Jeff Maurer and Eli Sairs.

7-9 p.m. Friday. Velvet Lounge, 915 U St. NW. 202-462-3213. http://www.davehillonline.com. $4.
