Mount Pleasant library closes during renovations

The Mount Pleasant Neighborhood Library, 3160 16th St. NW, is closed for renovation and will reopen April 19 at an interim location, 3164 Mount Pleasant St. NW.

Nearby libraries are the Watha T. Daniel/Shaw Interim Neighborhood Library, 945 Rhode Island Ave. NW; Petworth Interim Library, 4200 Kansas Ave. NW; and Cleveland Park Neighborhood Library, 3310 Connecticut Ave. NW.

Lawyers, politicians take to the court in fundraiser

The Hill's Angels vs. Hoya Lawyas: This is March Madness as only Washington can do it.

The annual Home Court basketball game Wednesday will pit members of Congress against Georgetown University law school faculty in a fundraiser for the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless. Last year, the event raised more than $335,000, organizers said. The Angels won, 48-42.

This year's game will be at Thurgood Marshall Academy, 2427 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE, with tipoff at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $20 at the door. For details, call 202-662-9075 or visit http://www.homecourtdc.org.

Group launches morning run to help the homeless

Back on My Feet, a nonprofit organization that uses running to help promote self-sufficiency among the homeless, is launching its program in the District with a 5:45 a.m. run Monday by 40 homeless people from four families.

The group offers job training, employment and housing to homeless people who can maintain a 90 percent attendance rate at morning runs three days a week.

During the Monday event, four teams of homeless people and volunteers will run their first mile from these shelters: Emery House, Southeast Veterans Center, 801 East and Clean and Sober Streets.

Arts panel seeks entries for writing competition

The D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities is accepting submissions for the Larry Neal Writers' Competition.

Cash awards and prizes are given to authors 19 and older in poetry, short story and dramatic writing and to youths 8 to 12 and 13 to 18 in poetry, short story and essay writing.
