The American University Museum describes the art of Andy Holtin and Galo Moncayo -- each of whom is known for designing sometimes Rube Goldbergian sculptural contraptions that combine inventive technology with wonder -- as a kind of "mechanical theater." What does that mean exactly? Find out when the artists, working together under the name CausalityLabs, present their latest collaboration, "The World as We Know It."

The show, which opened last month, will be formally unveiled Tuesday with a free meet-the-artists reception from 6 to 9 p.m. at the AU Museum at the Katzen Arts Center, 4400 Massachusetts Ave. NW. 202-885-1300. http://www.american.edu/museum.
