Nicolas Cage: Down and out in Bel-Air
Nicolas Cage's Bel-Air, Calif., mansion found no takers in a foreclosure auction held Wednesday, Reuters reports. The 11,817-square-foot home failed to get any bids at its $10.4 million asking price this week, and ownership reverted to a foreclosing lender. The cash-strapped film star had better luck in January, when his foreclosed home in Las Vegas sold for nearly $5 million.
Ex-'Survivor' producer released
Mexican police have released Bruce Beresford-Redman from custody but barred him from leaving Mexico pending the investigation of his wife's death. The producer of "Pimp My Ride" and formerly of "Survivor" was arrested Thursday on suspicion of killing his Brazilian spouse, Monica, who went missing on Monday from the Cancun resort where they were on vacation. Her body was found near the hotel.
Boldly going . . . shopping?
Star Trek fans looking for rare memorabilia, sci-fi gadgets or a few Enterprise wall panels to spice up the living room can seek out the dismantled pieces of a closed Las Vegas attraction based on the franchise, the Associated Press reports. Alec Peters, chief executive of auctioneer Propworx, says fans can buy any of roughly 1,000 items from "Star Trek: The Experience"--including a few large-scale spacecraft replicas -- at a warehouse sale Saturday in Las Vegas. The attraction, based on the beloved television series and movies, closed in 2008 after an 11-year run.
You can't take it with you, but . . .
Anna Nicole Smith and her former husband, oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall, have found peace in the hereafter, but the couple's legal imbroglio will not be put to rest. Lawyers for Smith's estate are appealing a ruling that gave her none of her late billionaire husband's fortune, the Associated Press reports. The appeal filed Thursday seeks a full review by the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Marshall's will gave most of his estate to his son E. Pierce Marshall, who died in 2006. Smith, who died of a drug overdose in 2007, had argued that her elderly husband had promised to leave her more than $300 million.
