Good Counsel-Gilman headlines I-95 Kickoff Classic in September

Organizers of the I-95 Kickoff Classic held a news conference to publicize the quadruple header of high school football games on Labor Day Weekend at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium.
"I'm doing this because I'm sick and tired of hearing how great football is everywhere else and I wanted to put something on to show how great football is here in our state," said Tony Kennedy of Extra Point Productions. "Right now, it looks like we're exclusive to the private schools, but we want the public schools too. . . . Let's hope this Classic becomes big enough that certain schools can open up their schedules and play. Everybody always asks the question, why doesn't DeMatha play Eleanor Roosevelt or Good Counsel play Sherwood or St. John's play H.D. Woodson or Old Mill against Spalding? Those are great matchups to me."
It will be the second of two big season-opening events for Good Counsel. The Falcons, who last season finished No. 1 in The Post's rankings for the first time ever, are scheduled to play at St. Xavier of Cincinnati on Aug. 29. St. Xavier beat DeMatha, 28-7, to open the 2007 season.
