Statement from University of Maryland President C.D. Mote, Jr.

Wednesday, April 14, 2010; 8:59 PM

The safety and wellbeing of our students, faculty, and staff have always been our highest priority. The events that followed the March 3, 2010 basketball game raise concerns for us and require a thorough investigation.

I applaud Prince George's County Police Chief Roberto Hylton for carrying this investigation forward. I also appreciate the involvement of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Prince George's County State's Attorney Glenn Ivey in this matter.

I am confident that the investigation will clarify what happened that night and how we can prevent such incidents in the future. The Prince George's County Police Department is an important partner in our efforts to reduce crime and maintain a safe and secure community, both on and off-campus.

We look forward to continuing our work together toward this goal.
