Saturday, April 17, 2010

Mad about modern, or even slightly curious? The 2010 Hollin Hills House and Garden Tour is scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. May 1, rain or shine. The self-guided tour includes nine houses, two art-exhibit homes and one garden.

Advance tickets are $20 (seniors, $18; full-time students with valid ID, $10; general admission, $23 on the day of the tour). Lectures on Hollin Hills architecture, landscape and design will be at 11 a.m. before the tour at Hollin Meadows Elementary School (2310 Nordok Pl. in Alexandria). For more information, go to http://hollinhills.org.

In conjunction with the tour, the National Building Museum, 2401 F St. NW, will host a program at 6:30 p.m. April 28 entitled "Modernist Suburbia," in which architect John Burns and landscape architect Dennis Carmichael will discuss the history, growth and influence of Hollin Hills. Tickets are $20; information is available at http://nbm.org.
