Tech start-ups make their pitches

Five technology start-ups get their chance to go before investors Wednesday when the Northern Virginia Technology Council hosts an entrepreneur pitch event. Here's a look at who they are:

AlphaDetect

Year founded: 2008

Mission: To protect their customers from those that wish to do them harm via the Internet

Requesting: $550,000 for product development, marketing and sales

Future plans: Developing products to protect e-mail and Web browsing from malicious content.

The pitch: The AlphaDetect team "has extensive experience operating this technology in end-user environments. By advancing this technology to the next level, the company will be well positioned to become a significant player in the e-mail security software market that is expected to grow to over $6B by 2013."

CYNCZ

Year founded: 2009

Mission: To create value by giving users access to business critical information on any device any time using bleeding-edge technological innovation

Requesting: $250,000 for marketing, customer support, product support for sales partners and developing sales partners
