House votes
Extended jobless benefits
For: 289/Against: 112
The House of Representatives sent President Obama a bill (HR 4851) providing about $12 billion to pay for an extension until June 2 of jobless checks for hundreds of thousands of people whose benefits expired April 4. Costing $18 billion overall, the bill also would provide short-term funding of COBRA health insurance for the jobless, transportation projects, national flood insurance, small-business loan programs and Medicare payments to doctors, among other measures.
This vote occurred as the House and Senate negotiated a separate bill that would extend eligibility for jobless benefits until the end of the year.
A yes vote was to pass the bill.
