44: Massa investigation reopened by House ethics committee

The Committee on Standards of Official Conduct is establishing an investigative subcommittee to look into the alleged misconduct surrounding former Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.).

The Post's Carol D. Leonnig reported Monday that a conservative watchdog group filed a complaint Monday with the Federal Election Commission seeking an investigation into a $40,000 payment to his chief of staff the day after Massa announced his campaign was ending.

Because the committee cannot investigate former members, the panel will look into what other staff members and officials knew about Massa's conduct, and what what they did with any information they received.
