Redesigned $100 bill aimed at keeping counterfeiters at bay

The inkwell, to the left of Franklin's portrait, will change color when the note is tilted. But the movement also will make the image of the Liberty Bell appear and disappear inside the inkwell.

"As with previous U.S. currency redesigns, this note incorporates the best technology available to ensure we're staying ahead of counterfeiters," Geithner said.

Franklin's image will remain on the front of the $100 bill and a rendering of Independence Hall in Philadelphia will remain on the back, though both have been modified to make it more difficult to produce counterfeits.

U.S. Treasurer Rosie Rios's signature will appear on the new currency along with Geithner's.
