A man in a tan hooded sweatshirt robbed an off-duty D.C. police officer at gunpoint in the Suitland area Saturday night, and the officer fired a gun at the suspect, Prince George's County police said.

The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. in the 3800 block of Old Silver Hill Road, police said. The suspect, apparently unhit by the gunfire, fled on foot with an unknown amount of cash.

Sgt. Michelle Reedy, a Prince George's police spokeswoman, said she could not immediately provide more details. She said the D.C. officer was unhurt.
