Art Asia After Dark
The Sackler Gallery is continuing its recent tradition of after-hours art parties with its first soiree of the year, this time spotlighting the art and culture of Tibet. The four-hour event offers an assortment of activities, starting with the chance to see the sacred paintings and sculptures of "In the Realm of the Buddha" after closing time. For the more artistically inclined, Tibetan artist Gonkar Gyatso will be on hand to oversee the creation of a peace-themed collage, and visitors can test their woodblock printmaking skills. Traditional songs will be performed by Tsewang Yangzom and dance music supplied by DJ Chris Linux. Food from Asia Nine and Mie N Yu and a cash bar, featuring such cocktails as the Thangka-tini, round out the evening. Guests must be 21 and older to enter.
Thursday from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, 1050 Independence Ave. SW. 202-633-1000. http://www.asia.si.edu. $20; $18 in advance.
