One hug for beleaguered Charlie Crist
Dana Milbank asks, "Who'll hug Charlie Crist?" [Sunday Opinion, April 25]. My answer: "I will." Charlie and I grew up in St. Petersburg, Fla., and attended the same elementary school and church. In junior high, the highlight of my cotillion experience was a dance with Charlie.
Throughout the years, I've watched Charlie's meteoric rise, and now I bemoan his dilemma: whether to run for the Senate as a Republican or as an independent. (It looks as if he'll run as an independent.) If Charlie were running for office in my state, I'd vote for him, even though I'm a registered Democrat. He's a good man. He's eager to find the middle ground.
He's the kind of politician I respect. So, break away, Charlie. You have nothing to lose but false friends.
