Google wins ruling in Rosetta Stone suit

A federal court sided with Google in a case brought by language-teaching software company Rosetta Stone, which said the search engine infringed trademarks by directing users to Web sites of Rosetta's competitors and counterfeiters.

U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee granted Google's motion for summary judgment Thursday.

Rosetta Stone, of Arlington, claimed that Google sold to advertisers the right to use Rosetta's trademarks or words similar to them as keywords for paid ads on Google. Google argued that it removed infringing material when informed and that it isn't responsible for ad content. A Rosetta spokesman did not return messages seeking comment.

HGS posts loss as sales decrease

Human Genome Sciences reported a first-quarter loss of $47.9 million, attributing it to lower revenue, including a drop in sales to the U.S. government of an inhaled treatment for anthrax.

The company, which earned $129.8 million in last year's quarter, said revenue fell 74 percent, to $46.5 million.
