To start running track, Dosu Teyibo had to get the track program at the Barrie School running.

Both were in fine shape on Saturday at the Draper Invitational at St. Stephen's/St. Agnes. Teyibo won the 100-meter dash and scored in three other events to lift the Silver Spring school with an enrollment of about 300 to sixth place.

"I'm exhausted. I'm ready to go home," Teyibo, a senior, said.

The boys from Gonzaga went home with the championship. Led by Stacy Robinson and Aaron Shepperd, the Eagles ran away from Good Counsel and Episcopal on a hot day in Alexandria.

McDonogh of Baltimore won the girls' competition easily over Georgetown Visitation and Sidwell Friends.

Teyibo, who helped start the track program at Barrie School and is vice president of the student government association, kicked things off on Saturday with a victory in the 100. Five runners got to the line at virtually the same time, but a photo showed that Teyibo got there in 11.10 seconds, .05 of a second quicker than Model's Vianney Yamb.

The triple jump and the 200 overlapped for Teyibo and one wore him down for the other. He still delivered. Teyibo was second in the 200 in 22.70 behind Gonzaga's Leo McLaughlin (22.48). He was also second in the triple jump with a personal-best 43 feet 11.25 inches behind Gonzaga's Robinson (45-7.5).

Teyibo was third in Friday's long jump with 21-7.5.

"My league's not as competitive as this," said a worn-out Teyibo. "Having more advanced teams here helped me push past my norm."

Herndon's Carina Peter got a push as well -- and each time found an extra gear to pull away. She exploded over the last 25 meters to win the 100 in 12.26 and did the same thing to capture the 200 in 25.37.

Episcopal's Sarah Dillard won two events in the field. She captured Friday's shot put with a mark of 38-6.75 before taking the discus with a throw of 116-5.

Thor Serafenas controlled the boys' throws. The Good Counsel senior won the shot put by nearly nine feet with 56-2.75 and the discus by almost 25 feet with 170-1.

Robinson keyed Gonzaga's dominating team victory. The senior won the triple jump on his final attempt (45-7.5), captured the 300 hurdles (39.16), was runner-up in the long jump (22-2.25) and was fifth in the 100 (11.20).

But the day belonged to Teyibo. In 2008, he and Barrie School Coach David Levy drummed up enough support among parents, teachers and the administration to start a track team. Barrie School had only nine athletes during that inaugural season, but in just three years the number has ballooned to 35. The Mustangs don't have a track of their own, so they practice on the soccer field.

Behind Teyibo, they had their best showing at the Draper Invitational.

"He's really gotten the program going," Levy said of Teyibo, a three-year captain. "People are attracted to being around such a vibrant personality and great talent."

Prance, then dance: Good Counsel senior Kyle Graves won Friday's 3,200 in a meet-record 9:10.53. He then attended his prom. Jump start: National Cathedral's Naomi Bates set a meet record in the triple jump. Her winning mark of 36-11 was a full foot better than runner-up Jessie Christian of Georgetown Day.
