Zoo needs names for two beary cute cubs

-- The National Zoo has two new Andean bear cubs and wants some help picking their names.

The brother and sister cubs were born in January and will go on public view May 22. Zookeepers predict visitors will be captivated by the active young bears. "The cubs are extremely playful and not at all shy," according to curator Craig Saffoe.

But before their debut, the zoo is holding an online naming contest so the public can weigh in. Several possible names have been chosen for each cub, with input from the embassies of Peru and Venezuela, where Andean bears are found in the wild. You can vote online at http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Animals/Amazonia until noon Monday. The winning names will be announced May 19.
